ManufacturingWorks is a demand-driven system designed to enhance the performance of manufacturers in the Chicagoland area. ManufacturingWorks is the only manufacturing sector-center in the Chicago area. We work with the Local Industrial Retention Initiative (LIRI) network to build long-term relationships with companies that lead to measurable productivity improvements. We assess job skills, screen potential employees, facilitate lean manufacturing and other customized training systems, assess and recommend pre-employment training, provide funding resources and offer a broad variety of business consulting services. Twenty Chicago-area companies serve on our steering committee to direct, advise and inform our processes that lead to a lower ratio of candidates sent to candidates hired. As a partnership between local leaders in the manufacturing sector, the City of Chicago, the Chicago Workforce Board (CWB), the Mayor's Department of Community Development (DCD), the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity  (DCEO) and Instituto del Progreso Latino (IDPL), ManufacturingWorks brings much more comprehensive expertise to bear than is likely to be found at any private sector consultancy.
